Websec at OWASP Victoria: From Basics to Burp Part 3 Workshop
Websec's Wyatt Harvey and Sebastian Bethell wrapped the From Basics to Burp series at UVic on March 13, 2025, with Part 3 taking attendees deeper into PortSwigger's Web Security Academy and practical exploitation techniques using Burp Suite.
Websec's Wyatt Harvey and Sebastian Bethell closed out the three-part web application security workshop series with OWASP Victoria and UVic VikeSec on March 13, 2025. From Basics to Burp Part 3: Navigating PortSwigger Academy ran from 5:30 PM to 8:20 PM PDT in ECS 116 at the University of Victoria.
Part 3 continued the hands-on format of the earlier sessions, with attendees working through beginner-friendly labs on PortSwigger's Web Security Academy while using Burp Suite to identify and exploit web application vulnerabilities. The session emphasised practical skills in web application hacking, combining technical work with time for questions and networking.
Coming Prepared
Attendees arrived with Burp Suite Community Edition installed and an active PortSwigger account, which let the session spend its time on the labs rather than on setup. Coming in having already poked at the Academy platform made the most of the three hours on the ground.
Closing the Series
Running a three-part workshop series is a real investment from the OWASP Victoria chapter, and we are proud to have been the presenters across all three editions. Thanks to the chapter, to UVic VikeSec for co-hosting, and to every attendee who sat through all three sessions. We will see you at the next one.
