Websec was a Gold Sponsor of the 9th Annual Library IT Conference on April 21, 2026, held in the Alice MacKay Room at the Vancouver Public Library Central Branch. This year's theme, The Living Library: Thriving in the Next Wave, brought together technology leaders, librarians, developers, and innovators from across Western Canada to talk about where library technology is headed next.

Roberto Salgado on AI Security

Roberto Salgado, Websec's CEO and co-founder, delivered a session titled AI Is a Double-Edged Sword. The talk walked library technology leaders through what AI actually changes in day-to-day security work, where the real risks are when organisations integrate AI into public-facing services, and the practical steps library IT teams can take to benefit from the technology without being caught off guard by it.

The Broader Agenda

The day focused on the intersection of library technology, cybersecurity, digital services, and responsible innovation. Earl Maynard of the Canadian Centre for Cyber Security presented insights from the National Cyber Threat Assessment, and Ben Hyman, CEO of Vancouver Public Library, spoke to the audience about the road ahead for libraries in a rapidly changing technology environment. Sessions also covered AI strategy, modern exposure management, and structured networking throughout the day.

Why We Sponsor Library IT

Libraries are public infrastructure, and their IT teams carry a disproportionate weight of responsibility for the communities they serve. Supporting conferences that help those teams stay current, ask better questions, and share what works is one of the more concrete ways we can contribute to the field. We were proud to be a Gold Sponsor this year and to help an event that continues to strengthen the library technology community across Western Canada.

Thanks to the organising committee for the invitation, and to everyone who came by the booth to talk.
