Websec Experts Speak at the ISACA Victoria 2024 InfoSec Student Conference
Roberto Salgado and Matt Price joined the ISACA Victoria InfoSec Student Conference at UVic on March 14, 2024 to talk to students and young professionals about building a career in cybersecurity, the discipline of continuous learning, and what the industry actually looks like behind the job titles.
Websec was proud to have two of its senior team members, Roberto Salgado and Matt Price, speak at the 2024 InfoSec Student Conference hosted by the ISACA Victoria Chapter. The conference was held on March 14, 2024 at the Michèle Pujol Room at the University of Victoria and was offered both in person and online.
A Conference Built for Students
The annual ISACA Victoria Student Conference is built specifically for school, college, and university students and young professionals, giving them direct networking opportunities and real information about cybersecurity careers. The format pairs talks from working practitioners with dedicated networking sessions, so students can ask the questions they will not find answers to in a course catalogue.
Lessons from the Trenches
Roberto and Matt shared their own paths into security, from the early technical work through to leadership roles. They talked about the discipline of continuous learning that the job demands, the role of adaptability when the threat landscape shifts under your feet, and the practical things a new practitioner can do to become the kind of professional the industry needs more of.
Supporting the Next Generation
Events like the ISACA Victoria Student Conference matter because they close the gap between what students hear in classrooms and what security work looks like day to day. Websec remains committed to supporting the next generation of cybersecurity talent and, wherever we can, contributing to the development of future industry leaders.
Thanks to the ISACA Victoria Chapter and UVic for the invitation, and to every student who came with sharp questions.
