Websec Returns to BSides Vancouver Island 2026 as Silver and Badge Sponsor

Websec is back at BSides Vancouver Island this year as a Silver Sponsor and the conference's Badge Sponsor. BSides VI 2026 takes place on Friday, September 25, 2026 at the Victoria Conference Centre in downtown Victoria, BC. We have sponsored BSides VI every year it has run, and we are glad to keep that going.

Come Say Hi at the Booth

We will have a booth for the whole day, staffed by members of our team who are happy to talk about penetration testing, application security, AI security, or whatever you are working on right now. We are also bringing swag, so stop by early before it runs out.

Roberto Salgado on the Community Panel

At 1:00 PM on Track 1, Roberto Salgado, Websec's CEO and co-founder, joins the panel Building the Local Cybersecurity Community: Meet Up by Meet Up. Hosted by Amy Tom, Community Manager at D3 Security, the panel brings together organisers from across the region's meetup scene:

• Ryan Clarke, Principal Incident Response Consultant at Mandiant (Google Cloud), representing ISACA Vancouver, DC604, and Vancitysec
• Roberto Salgado, Co-Founder and CEO of Websec, representing OWASP Victoria
• Parisa Saqib, Cybersecurity Analyst at BCIT, representing DMZ604

The panellists will talk about why they started their groups, what keeps them going, and how showing up to local meetups builds credibility and career resilience in ways certifications alone can't. If you're new to the field or just haven't found your community yet, this one is for you.

What's on the Agenda

Two tracks of talks run from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM. Highlights include Greg Pollock on threat hunting in Google's DMCA data, Ryan Smith on attackers taking over network edge infrastructure, Megg Sage's deep dive into the Shai-Hulud attacks, David Brunsdon on the residential proxy economy, and Geoff McDonald on fully autonomous AI attacks. BSides VI is where the Island's security community gets into one room: working practitioners, students, and people just finding their way into the field.
